HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

It seems like I was saying that to everyone on Ventriloquistcentral just yesterday. Wow time goes by so fast.

From both Steve’s family and my family I want to wish each and every one of you who visit our site a wonderful and healthy and prosperous New Year. Our economy may be in the tank but our spirits are high and our great art makes us all happy at anytime throughout the year.

It has been a great year for ventriloquism and I want to thank everyone who wrote in to us with their comments and donations for the site. It could not happen without all of you so PLEASE keep sending in the great items for us to post and the great comments.

Antique American Folk Art – Very Early Ventriloquist Figure… Shaw ???

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

I am happy to offer for sale this wonderful very early American Folk Art, Ventriloquist figure which I believe was made by William Henry James Shaw (for more about Shaw, click here).

It’s construction dates to the early 20th century. I have not been able to find any markings as to the maker but it is without question American, having markings on the board of his body from Philadelphia, PA.

His head is Paper Mache and he has a leather moving mouth and a spitter. The spitter is attached to the mouth palette and terminated out the back of the head. A slot was made to accommodate this movement.

His wig is also original and so is his paint. Just the way you want to find them. It has carved wood hands (replaced) and the clothing is original to the figure or they are at least from the 1920’s. The sweater is kind of tattered but still looks great.

The cap is silk and comes too. This is a great early American Folk Art Figure and worthy of any collection.
