Vent Haven
Ventriloquist ConVENTion
It is coming around to the Vent
Haven ConVENTion time again. Time just passes so quickly as you get
older. It seems to me that I just finished unpacking and sorting
through all the different business cards from other ventriloquists,
and putting them away and look it is only a few months and we will
be doing it all over again.
I have already booked my plane fare, no more 17 hour driving for me,
and sent in my registration for the ConVENTion so I am ready to go.
I can hardly wait. It is a gathering of all my friends from around
the world and I look forward each year to our gathering.
If you are new to ventriloquism this is a must attend. The lectures
and workshops give you everything you need to know to get started in
ventriloquism and the shows are the best. You get to see performers
that are new right up to the biggest names in Ventriloquism such as
Terry Fator and Jeff Dunham.
Can it get any better than that??
I think the answer is YES. This year the ConVENTion is honoring the
great Jimmy Nelson. Jimmy may be one of the greatest ventriloquist
that has ever lived and more of us learned about ventriloquism from
him than just about anyone else.
Of course I don’t want to not mention the Vent Haven Museum. For ME
is is the reason to attend. I put W.S. Berger on my pedestal and
hope that one day my collection will be as extensive as the
collection he put together. I am well on the way to doing that so I
have to attend just to see it again. You can never ingest all the
information and figures that are displayed for you and the team at
the Museum keeps making it better and better.
So don’t wait and make your reservations and “Be there or be square”
to coin a phrase.

Ventriloquist Central and Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady
My webmaster and partner, Steve Hurst
has been talking with Alyse and has some “behind the scenes”

Plastic Wood or Wood Dough for Ventriloquist Figures
In the not too distant past one of the favorite medium for making
cast ventriloquist figure heads was plastic wood. Although it was
very caustic (really hard on your lungs) it worked into the mold
easily and when fully cured was rock hard and was able to be carved
just like real wood....check out the rest of this blog.

Ventriloquist Central Video Collecting Series – Bob Isaacson’s

It is with great pleasure that I now
show you the fantastic, wood carved, Mortimer Snerd figure which Bob
used in the performances he did at the Museum of Radio Broadcasting
in Chicago.

Building A New Ventriloquist Figure
As some of you may (or may not) know,
my partner Steve Hurst is a website builder/marketer, a
ventriloquist and a figure builder. Today I want to share you with
an email that was sent to Steve from Peter Leger. Peter has already
built one figure using Steve’s course and is working on another one.

| Of course we had many
other blogs throughout the month of March, so be sure to check them
all out, just in case you might have missed one.

“The ULTIMATE Guide To
Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure, Volume 1”
"Steve's course is very
good too! You can actually see projects being worked on
and see how he handles them instead of just reading
about it (not that the books aren't worth having too!)."

“The ULTIMATE
Guide To Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure, Volume 1” is a
step-by-step system from start to finish, so you can create your
very own ventriloquist figure. Now you can become a
ventriloquist figure builder. This guide will answers all your
questions, show you all the short-cuts, and give you a quick and
easy paint-by-the-numbers way to making your own ventriloquist
figure-- even if you don’t think you can do it.
"Hi Steve,
I purchased the “The ULTIMATE Guide To Building Your Own
Ventriloquist Figure, Volume 1”, from you last year and
have finished my dummy now.
It has not taken that long to do but I have only been
able to do little bits to it here and there so thats
where the months have gone.
I would love to take this opportunity to thank you for
putting this course together. Building a dummy has been
a long term ambition of mine right from child hood when
I used to make cardboard dummies.
Now all I need to finish the one I have made from your
course is to clothe him. As soon as I have clothes for
him I will send some photos for you to see.
Any way thanks again and look forward to hearing from
you in the future."

"Steve, I purchased
your Ultimate Guide To Building Your Own
Ventriloquist Figure Vol.1 DVD's just over five
months ago. Let me first say, these are a MUST HAVE! I
have always wanted to build my own figure and your DVD's
gave me the confidence to get started as well as
valuable information with the whole process! I took your
advice on using the Fast Mache' method and it works!
That advice in itself saved me a lot of frustration
since this was my first time at figure making. I now
know I can begin my second figure and it will be even
more exciting than the first one. The information in the
Ultimate Guide DVD's are invaluable! I enjoy watching
them over and over again to gain more insight on figure
building. I can't wait to get into the mold making
process and duplicate one of my own figure heads! The
Ultimate Guide DVD's were exactly what I was looking for
and needed! Thanks so much for creating them. You truly
are an inspiration to me with all the nuts and bolts of
information you share in order to produce a
ventriloquist figure."
Thanks Again!

Pictures of Figures Added to the Website |
1930's Frank Marshall Nosey Ventriloquist Figure
This wonderful fellow is one of Frank
Marshall's early Nosey figures. He was crafter mid 1930's and as you
can see is in all original condition except for a small touch up on
his forehead and on the side of his nose. He is 38" tall and has
everything original just as he came from Frank's shop.

Tiny A Rare Early Maher Figure
The early Maher figures are rare to
find today and "Tiny" is possibly the rarest of all of the original
catalogued Maher figures. Madeleine Maher was te builder of the
figures early on and like some of the builders of today the were
conversion figures.

Final Thoughts |
|
When we changed our blog format a few months back, we couldn’t keep
the ventriloquist videos page we had due to technical reasons.
However, I’m glad to say that the Ventriloquist Videos are back. In
fact, we created an entire site for it called:
www.VentriloquistCentralVideos.com
Here you’ll be able to see videos of your favorite ventriloquists
and anything to do with the art of ventriloquism.
We’ll be adding more and more videos as time goes on, so be sure to
check it out.
Till next time,
Dan |
