On a more personal note (even though it's not about ventriloquism)......the time has finally arrived here in the northeast when the motorcycles can be ridden Temps yesterday were in the 70′s and I got the Drifter out of storage and all cleaned up.

Over the winter I did do a few add ons to my bike so today I am happy to show you pictures of how she looks.

I am a lover of the Indian look and have dressed my bike as close as I could to that original Indian stance. I think my Pretendian really makes a statement.

(Here you can see pictures of "My Drifter")

Although my love is ventriloquist figures I also love motorcycles and my very first ride when I got my drivers license was a 1959 Triumph 650. I have always been a bike lover and have had many of them over the years. I even got Helen to go with me early in our marriage but today she doesn’t have the desire to go for a ride so it is solo riding for me.

Enjoy the rest of the newsletter.

How to Make a Ventriloquist Figure Collection

When it comes to collecting you must remember to set limits to where you want your collection to go. This is why I decided that for the most part I wanted just wood carved figures. You see there is such an array of different styles and types of materials that were used to make figures that I had to choose for myself what direction I wanted to go.

Fitting Sleeves For Ventriloquist Figures

Not every ventriloquist figure’s body is made the same so even when you get a figure that is supposed to be 3T or 4T you may find that the sleeve length on the suit coat or sports jacket may not be the correct length.

Frank Marshall Figures in Ventriloquist Central Collection

I am constantly asked how many EXACTLY is the number of Frank Marshall figures that are currently in the Ventriloquist Central Collection. I really had not counted in a long time because the number really didn’t matter to me but since I was being asked this so many times today I decided to do the actual count.

Of course we had many other blogs last month, so be sure to check them all out, just in case you might have missed one.

The Ultimate Guide to Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure, Vol 1

“The ULTIMATE Guide To Building Your Own
Ventriloquist Figure, Volume 1”

"Steve's course is very good too! You can actually see projects being worked on and see how he handles them instead of just reading about it (not that the books aren't worth having too!)."

Gary Koepke

“The ULTIMATE Guide To Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure, Volume 1” is a step-by-step system from start to finish, so you can create your very own ventriloquist figure.  Now you can become a ventriloquist figure builder. This guide will answers all your questions, show you all the short-cuts, and give you a quick and easy paint-by-the-numbers way to making your own ventriloquist figure-- even if you don’t think you can do it.

"Hi Steve,

I purchased the “The ULTIMATE Guide To Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure, Volume 1”, from you last year and have finished my dummy now.

It has not taken that long to do but I have only been able to do little bits to it here and there so thats where the months have gone.

I would love to take this opportunity to thank you for putting this course together. Building a dummy has been a long term ambition of mine right from child hood when I used to make cardboard dummies.

Now all I need to finish the one I have made from your course is to clothe him. As soon as I have clothes for him I will send some photos for you to see.

Any way thanks again and look forward to hearing from you in the future."

"Steve, I purchased your Ultimate Guide To Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure Vol.1 DVD's just over five months ago. Let me first say, these are a MUST HAVE! I have always wanted to build my own figure and your DVD's gave me the confidence to get started as well as valuable information with the whole process! I took your advice on using the Fast Mache' method and it works! That advice in itself saved me a lot of frustration since this was my first time at figure making. I now know I can begin my second figure and it will be even more exciting than the first one. The information in the Ultimate Guide DVD's are invaluable! I enjoy watching them over and over again to gain more insight on figure building. I can't wait to get into the mold making process and duplicate one of my own figure heads! The Ultimate Guide DVD's were exactly what I was looking for and needed! Thanks so much for creating them. You truly are an inspiration to me with all the nuts and bolts of information you share in order to produce a ventriloquist figure."

Thanks Again!

Ventriloquist Central | Small Frank Marshall Figure   Very Small Frank Marshall Ventriloquist Figure

Frank Marshall made ventriloquist figures in all sizes. This one I am showing you is a rather small figure that stands only 28" tall. He is a terrific figure with a wonderful face. He is very unusual because he has cast hands and cast feet instead of wood. They have always been on the original Marshall body. The original muslin on the arms and legs matches the muslin covering the body.

Ventriloquist Central | Brian Hamilton Head Casting  Brain Hamilton Ezry Head

I am a big fan of the late Brian Hamilton and have quite a few of his figures in the Ventriloquist Central Collection and I love the fact that he is a direct descendant of the McElroy Brothers. They did teach him some of their methods.

This is Frank Marshall’s Bernie Birchwood ventriloquist figure. He is a most unusual figure and was created late in Frank Marshall’s career although he has one thing that is a throw back to his earlier creations. He has the leather under his chin but it does not attach as the leather did back in the 30′s and forties.

Final Thoughts

I have received a few emails asking me if I thought going to the Vent Haven ConVENTion was something they should do because they are new into ventriloquism and were not sure if they would be welcomed. My answer to them was if you love the art of ventriloquism, in any capacity, then you MUST make the journey to the ConVENTion.

I attended my first ConVENTion quite a number of years ago and was not a ventriloquist but a collector of figures. I was made to feel right at home by everyone that I met. I literally knew no one but within a few minutes I had become friends with folk I had never met before. Today those same folks who first friended me are still close friends of mine and we speak all the time.

I have made the trek to ConVENTion and in the past 8 years only missed one and that was because of a scheduling conflict. I happened to be in Vegas at the time of the ConVENTion.

So if you are new to vent or seasoned I say spend the money and make the trip. Even my wife is going again this year.

Can’t wait to meet you all there.

Till next time,
Dan
